Return of the King

I have a feeling that the screen play of Lion King 2 (If they ever make it ..) is going to involve the following scene ..

Inset : Camera zooms in on a beautiful forest in Africa ..where Simba junior and his new friend Sheru frolick around under the supervision of Nala on the banks of a blue river . At one point when the friendly bantering between the two cubs turns to warning roars ..Nala turns around sleeply ..swats her paw ..seperates the two and says .."Now Now ..Little ones ..Lets be civil ..Lets not act like Humans " . Camera zooms out .

Early this morning I was watching TV .The crew rolled in and tank after tank pulled through the already flattened streets in a war inflicted zone .A makeup ridden reporter went on and on about how exciting the latest capture was ..I saw something very random . In the backgroud ..a
small little puppy ..trying to dodge attention and hide behind an unsuspecting armoured vehicle . It looked scared and confused and completely unable to understand what was going on .
I had seen that look before .

Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Bombay borders a zone which densely populated . Slums , Apartment complexes and even schools line up with it ..on one side or the other . Last year , the local newspapers carried a jubliant article about how they had trapped a few leapords who had attempted to pick up dogs and poultry from localities close by and injured people.
That poor leapord looked just as confused , staring into the camera lens from its cage . It was just going after its primal instinct - food . Its like he was wondering where to go ..wasnt his fault that his homes had turned into concrete jungles and there was no food left for him to eat .So it was okay for KFC to serve chicken ..but he couldnt eat a bird or two if he wanted .

If someone in the team that sits on the other side of the floor has a baby shower - I get excited ..because that means we will have publix sheet cake leftovers in the coffee room around 4 pm . I wont even accept meeting invites around that time ,leave alone letting someone stand between me and that cake !

I'm not saying I want to be cat food either .

But just thinking ..seriously thinking..of a time ..way before the oil spills , pollution , poaching ,the wars and all the mess . When the forests , the lands , the seas , the cities, Countries and continents were as much ours as theirs .

In Shantaram , the author points out that a lot of the things that seemed bad in the world ..really werent all that bad until someone tried to make them better ...and likewise ..sometimes in an attempt to improve things ..we actually end up making them a lot worse ...for everyone ..or at least for some of the impacted parties ..whether they are members of our electoral demography or not .

All I know with certainty is that when my kids end up fighting and playing pranks and being the devils they are going to be (thanks to their genes) ..I'm not going to be able to say " Dont be such Monkeys" ! ..with as much conviction as maybe my Mom did to me ...For
God alone knows ...they could do much much worse .
