In lieu of going on about the raging World Cup 2006 Fever , I thought I 'll post a review on one of the nicest movies I've seen this year . .
Centered around a young Mexican Boy- This movie is about an emotion close to everyones hearts and a word on everyones lips ..atleast till July ..GOAL!!
A young 10 year old Santiago Munez is woken up in the middle of the night in Mexico by his dad - who says they must leave for america....on that fateful life changing journey , the only possession that santiago decides to carry is his football. His Goal.
Growing up in L.A , living with his father , brother and Grandmom , young santiago dreams , breathes and lives football . His life centers around cleaning swimming pools with his father during the day ..and running off to play ball in the evenings . Santiago's been saving money - to buy a pair of shin guards . He stuffs his socks with cardboard from the trash , because the league coach wont let him play without the guards ..thats Santiago ....passionate , young and into the game .
His father yells at him when he finds out he's been putting money aside and takes the money away to buy a truck ..since thats the "dream" that they all need to live for . Santiago ..just goes back to saving all over again .
There a kind of luck that stems from just being in the right place at the right time .. And so it happens that on one sunny day - Santiago gets spotted by a scout- who tells him that all he needs to do is show up and he is guaranteed a trial with Newcastle United .
And so the dream begins ..what transpires is story told with great passion and simplicity ..not only about following your dream ...but about holding on to your roots and ideals , growing up in a world full of strangers and finding your GOAL .
For young Santiago ..home is a green field with posts at 2 ends ..but in the ruthless rush of premier league sport ..where football is a religion ..doe he have what it takes to be a God ?!
Watch Now and let the madness grip you .
Ps : Beckham , Raul , Zidane have cameos

Reminds me of Iqbal, another winner from Nagesh Kukkunoor. A wonderful film!
