A Good Year
Victor Frankl once said that we should ask not what we expect from life – but ask what life expects from us. Its not about what questions we have for life – its about what actions we take to answer the many questions that life asks us.
And so on that note another year in my life has come to an end.
And what a good year it was….
I have changed cities, found new homes, made new friends, grown new roots where wings were and found release from the same chains that bound me familiarly. I’ve fallen down, had my heart broken, lost old faiths, gotten up, made new promises, built new bridges, wiped my tears, raised my chin, laughed at myself and thanked the skies immensely for the wonderful things and people that have made it a habit of finding me serendipitously.
And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times, I’ve continued my journey and moved on.
This year started in Hyderabad on a veiled night and ended in Bombay on a starry one.
Come to think of it – since 2004 – every single year in my life has started in one city and ended in another one. If there is meaning in this small fact that went unnoticed even to my self discerning eyes until I started writing this post – time alone will tell.
For now I am happy to just stand quietly in this place that I arrive at only once every year after walking 365 days in my worn shoes – where I can peek back with ardent gratitude, look ahead with unabashed hope and hug the moment silly.
Thank God I have enough.
I’m 30 years old and my city is Mumbai
